This year there is a new passport requirement which is that when you are filling out the entry for the DV Lottery program, you need to put your passport information.

About the spouse and children in Diversity visa lottery (EDV Lottery):
You do not have to have passport information for your spouse or children. Only for the primary applicant. But, keep in mind that if you do not put in all the information, as you are required to do, that your application will be rejected. Just keep in mind that it is only one per person and that if you have a duplicate application for the year, they are going to reject it. There are approximately 14 million people that apply every year for a possible 55 thousand visas. So some of you may be wondering, how can I get a better chance? You can put in your entry to the Diversity visa lottery (DV Lottery), and then your spouse can also put in their entry for the Visa Lottery and list you as the spouse.

What if my spouse is already a US Citizen or Permanent Resident?

In fact, when you go to fill in the entry, there's a separate button for "I'm married, but my spouse is a US Citizen or Permanent Resident." Otherwise, if you are married, you can work out stuff with your spouse about whether or not they're going to come to American with you or stay in the home country or whatever is going on, but you do need to honestly state what your marital status is at that time that you file.

If passport expire Next Year for filling Diversity visa lottery (EDV Lottery), Is that going to be a problem?
That's not really something you need to be to concerned about. At the time your file, you need to have a valid -- at the time you put in your entry, you need to have a valid passport so put your passport information as you have it. And then make sure you keep a copy, a photo copy, of that passport - the biographical page showing your picture, your name, your date of birth, all of that -- keep that. Then, if in future, your passport has expired and you get a new passport, you will be able to explain that "this is the passport information I had back in October, 2019 when I entered. Obviously, you can see my passport expired sometime later, and now this is my new passport."

Keep your confirmation number of your Diversity visa lottery (EDV Lottery) form when you do the entry:

The US Government does not send out letters, also the US Government does not send out emails telling people, "You've been picked in the lottery. Pay this money." Those are scams. The only way you're going to know if you've been picked in the lottery is to go to the official state department website https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ and they have the place where you go to check and see, and you're only going to be able to do that by putting in your confirmation information. So, it is so, so important that when you enter the visa lottery, you keep your confirmation number.
